Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Thursday there has been “good progress” in talks with the United States in Geneva.

Speaking at a press conference following the third round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, hosted by Oman, Araghchi said the sides had reached “understanding” on some issues, while differences remain on others. The event was covered by Iran’s state television.

Araghchi added: “This round of negotiations addressed highly important issues, and today I can say we witnessed one of the most significant and longest negotiation sessions. The meeting lasted about four hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon.”

“Overall, we made good progress and have begun serious discussions on the agreement’s provisions, both on nuclear matters and sanctions.”

He added that in some areas, the parties were very close to reaching an agreement, though some differences remain. “Both sides are showing greater seriousness in seeking a solution through negotiations compared to the past,” he said.

Araghchi confirmed that technical-level talks will begin in Vienna next Monday and said the next round of negotiations is expected soon, possibly within a week.

Earlier on Thursday, Geneva hosted the third round of Iran–US nuclear talks, mediated by Oman.
