Hamas delegation holds talks with Iranian officials during Khamenei funeral in Tehran

A senior Hamas delegation led by the movement’s chairman, Mohammad Darwish, attended the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran and held meetings with senior Iranian officials to discuss developments in Gaza and bilateral relations.

According to a statement issued by Hamas, the delegation met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, and several other Iranian officials on the sidelines of the funeral.

The delegation conveyed its condolences to Iran’s leadership and people over Khamenei’s death and praised what it described as his longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people.

Hamas said the discussions focused on the latest political and military developments related to the war in the Gaza Strip, the humanitarian situation in the territory, and developments in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, including Israeli military operations and settler violence.

According to the statement, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations and continuing coordination in response to regional developments.

The talks also addressed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Gaza, increasing humanitarian assistance, and pressing Israel to adhere to its commitments and halt what Hamas described as violations against Palestinians.

The statement added that Hamas and Iranian officials stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinian people and reiterated their backing for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The visit comes as Hamas continues political contacts with regional and international actors amid efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, expand humanitarian aid deliveries, and address the worsening humanitarian situation in the enclave.
