Organisations pursue prosecution of Turkish citizens serving in Israeli army

Israel’s Diaspora Affairs Ministry said organisations have launched a campaign to track Israeli soldiers who hold Turkish citizenship, searching for them through social media and family networks and identifying their military units in an effort to bring them to criminal trial.

According to the report, a network of organisations is behind the campaign, including the World Organization of Law and Academic Society (WOLAS) and the Freedom Watch Platform. 

The groups collect publicly available information about settlers and conduct campaigns to prosecute Israeli soldiers.

The report said the network also includes organisations such as Al-Haq and the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), which Israel classifies as terrorist organisations, as well as Al Mezan, which the report says is under US sanctions, along with the Freedom Flotilla, Mavi Marmara and other organisations.

The report said the Freedom Watch Platform uses open-source information to track Israelis who have served in the Israeli army and also hold Turkish citizenship.

According to the report, the process begins by monitoring followers and posts on social media, particularly pages linked to the Jewish community in Turkey.
