Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, has pointed to a change in the United States’ tone, saying it is reflected in a message from US Vice-President JD Vance, as efforts continue to resume negotiations between Tehran and Washington to end the war.
The remarks come amid renewed US and Israeli threats to launch further strikes on Iran. The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that Vance had sent a message to Rezaei at the direction of President Donald Trump in an attempt to revive negotiations and avoid further US strikes.
“I have read the message but have not replied yet. Their tone has changed completely,” Rezaei said in a televised interview broadcast by Iranian television on Saturday.

He described the change in tone as “a good sign”, saying it showed that Iran had “consolidated its victory”.
Rezaei’s comments come as indirect mediation efforts continue through Qatar, despite Iranian officials saying earlier on Saturday that they had no plans to hold meetings with US officials.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed on Saturday that Tehran had received the message, describing Washington’s attempt to open a broader channel for dialogue and understanding as “a positive step”.
However, he warned that “if Washington’s aim in sending Vance’s message is to create disagreement and division, this will be another mistake added to America’s previous mistakes”.
