Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say will change ‘geography of war’ if attacked again

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Tehran would change its weapons and the “geography of the war” if the US launched a new attack on the country.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohibi made the remarks in a television program on Sunday evening, addressing a range of current issues.

“If a new attack takes place, our defense and offensive operations will change significantly. We will change the weapons and the geography of the war, and we will bring new capabilities with new capacities into the field. The world will be surprised,” Mohibi said.

“Our targets are no longer the same targets as before. We have identified new targets that have not yet been attacked.”

“Iran is prepared for a long-term war, and from our perspective, war has different stages. War does not end, but continues. The IRGC was already prepared for war, and it is now even more prepared,” Mohibi added.

He noted that the IRGC had not communicated with the US and that Iran’s armed forces had not engaged in diplomacy.

The military’s primary mission is to defend the country, Mohibi said.

He also claimed that US dominance in the region had ended, and that Iran, rather than Washington, was shaping the region’s new order.

The remarks came amid heightened tensions between Iran and the US over the Strait of Hormuz. The two countries remain at odds over navigation in the strategic waterway through which about a ⁠fifth of global oil consumption flowed before the war.

The US and Israel launched large-scale attacks against Iran on Feb. 28, targeting government buildings, military sites, missile infrastructure, and air defenses. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks against Israel and US bases across the region.

The war paused with a ceasefire in April, and a memorandum was signed in June for a final peace deal within 60 days. The deal, however, collapsed weeks later. Still, efforts to end the conflict have been underway through mediators Pakistan and Qatar.
