Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said Wednesday that Egypt’s military support for Saudi Arabia does not include launching attacks on Yemen, stressing that Cairo’s role is limited to defending the Kingdom’s territory and borders, Anadolu reports.

Sisi made the remarks during a session titled “Security of the Nation and Citizens” on the third day of the Egypt Forum 2026, attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, ministers and senior officials, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

“The Egyptian military effort is intended to defend the Kingdom’s territory and does not include an attack on Yemen,” Sisi said.

He explained that Egypt’s military role involves defending Saudi Arabia’s territory and borders, as well as those of any other Arab country that requests Cairo’s assistance.

Sisi stressed that Egyptian military efforts would not extend beyond Egypt’s borders or those of a fellow Arab country whose security and stability Cairo seeks to protect.

He also emphasized that Arab national security is “indivisible,” saying the stability of Gulf countries is closely linked to Egypt’s national security.

The Egyptian president said Cairo’s support for Gulf countries reflects its commitment to collective Arab security.

His remarks come amid Egyptian discussions over measures to support Saudi Arabia following escalating Houthi attacks on the Kingdom.

On Sunday, Egypt’s National Defense Council expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and discussed measures to safeguard Egyptian national security amid regional tensions. The Egyptian parliament subsequently convened to consider measures related to the country’s response to the regional developments.

The developments come amid intensified fighting in Yemen, where the Saudi-led coalition is supporting the internationally recognized government against the Houthis.

The Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks toward Saudi territory, while coalition forces have conducted military operations against Houthi positions in Yemen.
