An oil tanker caught fire after striking a naval mine in a restricted area east of the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian Navy said Monday, Anadolu reports.
In a statement, the Navy’s public relations office said the tanker had entered a “prohibited and unsafe” zone with its navigation systems switched off.
The Navy warned tanker owners against attempting to cross restricted waters without coordination or with their identification systems disabled.

It said shipowners should learn from the fate of vessels that enter prohibited areas after switching off their identification systems, warning that such actions could result in mine strikes and fires.
The statement did not identify the tanker or provide details about its crew, casualties or the extent of the damage.
The incident comes amid heightened maritime tensions in the Strait of Hormuz following the US-Israeli war on Iran.
