Egyptian decision to close tunnels is "irreversible"

February 5, 2014 at 2:11 am

Palestinian sources have claimed that the Egyptian authorities’ decision to close the smuggling tunnels under the border between Gaza and Egypt is “irreversible”. According to Al Hayat newspaper, the government in Cairo is determined to close all of the tunnels “for security reasons”.

Al-Hayat stressed that the government has not, and will not, “give up on Gaza”, but has to take all steps to secure the border against terrorist threats. It reported that the Egyptian authorities will reopen the Rafah border on Tuesday or Wednesday for people to enter or leave the Gaza Strip. The border has been closed since Friday.
