OIC calls for UN Security Council to discuss Israeli violations in Jerusalem

February 10, 2014 at 10:38 am

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has asked the Islamic bloc in the UN to call for a special Security Council session to discuss Israel’s violations in Jerusalem. The decision was taken at the 40th gathering of the OIC member states being held in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, where foreign ministers of Islamic countries criticised Israel’s open abuse of international law, especially with regard to incursions at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The ministers also agreed to visit important capitals around the world to spread the OIC message that “Israel’s continuous Judaisation policy in Jerusalem undermines the peace process”. At the same time they urged UNESCO to discuss Israel’s excavations beneath Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of the world’s oldest heritage sites.

According to media reports, the OIC is considering making a request to Islamic states which are members of the International Criminal Court to file complaints against Israel in the name of the organisation. As part of the process to isolate Israel internationally, it was agreed to boycott any state that recognises Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, or moves its embassy to the holy city, as well as boycott multinationals which cooperate with the Zionist state.

Financial support for the development of much-needed strategic projects in Jerusalem will be forthcoming, a spokesperson for the OIC said in a statement.
