February 13, 2014 at 2:56 am

A Palestinian official in Gaza said that a representative of the Egyptian army told the government in Gaza that the Rafah Crossing was closed until further notice.

Since the start of the preparation for the counter-revolution activities, the Egyptian army have tightened measures on Palestinian travellers entering and leaving Gaza through the crossing.

Immediately after the announcement of the military coup, Egyptian sources informed Palestinian officials that only certain people, such as patients and students, were allowed through.

Informed sources in Gaza told MEMO that the senior official of the Egyptian Intelligence Service Nader al-Asar phoned Palestinian Prime Minister in Gaza Ismail Haniyya on Friday afternoon. Al-Asar spoke to Haniyya about the latest developments in Gaza.

Haniyyah briefed him about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, a result of the restriction on the tunnels and the Rafah Crossing. Al-Asar promised to take action to ease the situation.
