Israeli soldiers and settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque

February 17, 2014 at 11:16 pm

Dozens of Israeli soldiers, all in uniform, accompanied a group of illegal Jewish settlers and stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque and its courtyards on Wednesday morning. This was part of a massive mobilisation of the Israeli occupation army.

Al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage said that soldiers and settlers entered the mosque at 9:00 am from the Moroccans’ Gate. The troops scoured the area while the settlers tried to perform Talmudic rituals. All Israeli soldiers in the mosque vicinity were on high alert. At the same time, dozens of worshippers and religious students were in Al-Aqsa Mosque; reports say that the situation was very tense.

According to a statement by Al-Aqsa Foundation, there were around 100 intruders in total and the incident comes at a time when such incursions are increasing in number. “We call upon Muslim peoples and governments to carry out their responsibilities towards Al-Aqsa Mosque and occupied Jerusalem,” said a spokesman, “in the light of the repeated Israeli attacks and violations against the first Qiblah [the direction faced in prayer] of Islam.”
