Jordan to appoint an ambassador in Tehran

March 17, 2014 at 3:03 pm

Jordan’s Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh is expected to appoint an ambassador to Tehran within the next few days, this follows six years of no official high-level diplomatic representation in Iran, a government source said.

Meanwhile; the new Iranian Ambassador Mojtaba Ferdosipour will arrive in Amman soon to replace the former Iranian ambassador in Amman Mustafa Zadeh.

The source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that the Hashemite Kingdom did not appoint an ambassador in Tehran for nearly six years because of the “Iranian authorities’ refusal to cooperate with Jordanian representatives. This led Jordan to feel diplomatic isolation due to the political differences between the two countries.”

The source said Jordan has reconsidered the issue following Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s visit to Amman last month during which he met with officials, including King Abdullah II, to discuss issues including bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

It is thought Ahmed Al-Jawarneh will be nominated for the position.
