Former Israeli Ambassador to the US: Israel may face sanctions as Palestinians turn to UN institutions

April 12, 2014 at 2:17 pm

The former Israeli Ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, warned on Wednesday that Israel might face danger on all levels as the Palestinian Authority turns to UN bodies for recognition and in order to pursue legal recourse against Israel’s on-going occupation of Palestine.

Speaking to Israeli TV Channel 10, Oren said: “Palestinians turning to UN institutions potentially exposes Israel to massive sanctions and Tel Aviv has to deal with all these threats seriously.”

Oren was previously chosen as one of the most five influential Jews in the US and one of the most ten influential Jews worldwide.

He advised Israel not to delay its response until the late stages. He explained the right response should be an official announcement of Israel’s real borders, stressing that all negotiations have an end and a “moment of truth”. He said that Israel has to be ready for that point.
