20 Palestinian MPs in Israeli prisons

The number of Palestinian ministers of parliament detained in Israeli jails has risen to 20 deputies after a campaign of arrests over the past 48 hours, the Palestinian Prisoners Club reported.

In a statement the club said the MPs who have been arrested include former prisoners who had spent years in Israeli jails, headed by the Speaker of the Legislative Council Aziz Dweik, many of them continue to fight against administrative detention, others hold senior positions while some are suspended deputies.

Representatives who have been convicted:

1. Marwan Barghouti (Ramallah): Sentenced to five life sentences and 40 years imprisonment

2. Ahmed Saadat, a secretary-general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (Ramallah): Sentenced to 30 years in jail

3. Ahmad Attoun (Jerusalem): Suspended from Jerusalem, from Jerusalem

Administrative detainees, a number of whom are engaged in a hunger strike:

9. Mohammed Badr (Hebron)
