Israel targets civilian homes on day 3 of war on Gaza

July 10, 2014 at 11:22 am

Some 72 Palestinians have been killed and more than 520 wounded so far during Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip.

More than 100 residential houses have also already destroyed, as day three of what Israel has called “Operation Protective Edge” begins.

Israeli actions showed an intentional targeting of civilians. Last night, Israeli air forces targeted a sea lounge full of youths watching the world cup game between Argentina and Holland, killing nine and wounding 16.

One hour later, in Al-Nusairat refugee camp in the middle of the Gaza Strip, another airstrike targeted the house of Ra’ed Shalat, officer in the Palestinian police, killing him and seriously wounding his wife and three children.

At 1.40am, another airstrike targeted the house of Al-Haj family in Khan Younis city in the south of the Gaza Strip, killing seven family members.

Just minutes later, another airstrike targeted the house of Al-Halabi family in the same city, killing seven members of the same family.

Commenting on this situation, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu-Zuhri said: “This shows how much Israel is unable to target the Palestinian resistance.”

Several similar strikes targeted residential homes the day before and resulted in serious causalities amongst civilians.

In Khan Younis, the Qawari family house was targeted while tens of civilians made a human shield on and around it. Seven people were killed and more than 10 were wounded.

Another strike destroyed the house of Hamas supporters in Beit Hanon, north of the Gaza Strip, killing a father, mother and four sons. The family’s four-year-old son survived the attack and has been hospitalised.

A few hours later, a father and three of his sons were killed, when an Israeli airstrike targeted the Al-Nawasra house in Al-Burij refugee camp in the middle of the Gaza Strip.

A similar strike targeted the Malakeh house in Al-Zaytoun neighbourhood in Gaza City, killing a mother and her three-year-old son. A following strike at the house of Al-Masri family in Beit Hanoun killed a mother and her 14-year-old son.

In the evening, a strike at another house killed Hani Hamad, 57, and his son Ibrahim, 20 in Beit Hanon.

Human rights activists in Gaza stressed that these acts are extreme violations of the international and humanitarian law, as well as the Rome Convention.
