Palestinian lawmaker accuses 'influential agencies' of attempting to assassinate him

Deputy head of the Palestinian Legislative Council Hassan Khreisheh has accused “influential Palestinian agencies” of attempting to assassinate him three weeks ago by shooting at his car while he was driving in Tulkarem.

At a press conference on Saturday, Khreisheh announced he would file a lawsuit against the minister of interior and the intelligence chief for their failure to identify the culprits.

Khreisheh said the assassination attempt was aimed at “silencing” him, and that it was carried out by “influential agencies with security and financial covers.”

He urged the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas to prosecute those behind the attack, pointing out that the committee he formed has not reached any conclusions.

He lamented the fact that the legislative council is “sidelined”, which emboldened some to “implement their destructive agendas aimed at the fiber of the Palestinian society, in order to guarantee their presence and protect their interests.”

He added that he will seek the help of the European Parliament and friendly parliaments to provide him with security against other assassination attempts.

Meanwhile, Palestinian academician and opposition figure Abdel-Sattar Qassem said during the conference that he was subjected to several assaults by members of Palestinian security agencies headed by Abbas, and that he is currently “engaged in consultations with international law specialists to file lawsuits against the Palestinian Authority and security agencies complicit in the assaults.”
