Syrian coalition criticises Iran over linking Al-Assad's fate with Israel's security

The Syrian Coalition of opposition forces has condemned the remarks of Deputy Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian during a conversation with his counterparts in the US, in which he linked the fall of Al-Assad’s regime with Israel’s security.

Abdollahian said that Israel’s security would be at risk should the US and its allies seek to topple Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and empower the Islamic State, according to the Times of Israel.

In a statement reported by Anadolu news agency, Deputy Head of the Syrian Coalition Noura Al-Ameer responded by saying that Abdollahian’s remarks “revealed that Iran and Al-Assad’s claims that they support resistance against the Israeli occupation were false”.

Abdollahian had previously warned that the defeat of the Syrian regime by the Islamic State would jeopardise Israel’s security.

Al-Ameer stressed that the situation in Syrian is now urgent, noting that: “Al-Assad’s regime is no longer able to protect itself and the persistence of the international community in ignoring the situation jeopardises peace not only in the region, but also around the entire world.”

She added that: “The fall of Al-Assad’s regime serves not only Syrians, but also peace everywhere.”
