Jordanian Prince to run for FIFA presidency

November 27, 2014 at 12:43 pm

UEFA officials are encouraging Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, FIFA vice president, to run against FIFA president Sepp Blatter in the coming elections for the presidency.

British tabloid newspaper The Sun said UEFA officials are unhappy with Blatter after allegations of corruption following the assignment of the 2018 World Cup to Russia and the 2022 games to Qatar.

UEFA president Michel Platini has decided not to run against Blatter, preferring to concentrate on European football. He spoke to the Jordanian Prince to convince him to enter the race after Blatter, 78, announced his intention to run for a fifth term.

According to the Mirror, Ali Bin Al Hussein “is convinced he will have votes from Asia, Europe and the CONCACAF section”.

Nominations have to be made before January 31.
