2 prisoners survive assassination attempts in Israeli jails

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Study Centre warned of more assassinations inside Israeli jails after two detainees survived following attempts to kill them, Qudsnet.com reported yesterday.

According to Qudsnet.com, the Prisoners’ Study Centre has learnt about several assassination attempts on Palestinian prisoners.

The last two attempts, the Centre said, were carried out against Ahmed Al-Haroub from Hebron, who survived after a bomb placed in tube of toothpaste exploded in his hands. The other, Haitham Salhiyah from Ramallah, found a poisonous tablet in his coffee.

Both assassination attempts were carried out by collaborators.

Manager of the Prisoners’ Study Centre, who is a former prisoner, Ra’fat Hamadouneh said that the Israeli occupation has killed scores of Palestinian prisoners inside its jails during investigations and during arrest campaigns.

He said that these acts contradict article 85 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which stipulates the protection of prisoners during their arrest and guarantees their protection in prison.

Hamadouneh called for international organisations, including the UN Human Rights Council and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to put pressure on the Israeli occupation to protect Palestinian prisoners.
