IDF: PA may collapse at any moment

February 13, 2015 at 3:21 pm

IDF intelligence sources have reported that Israel’s decision not to transfer tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority may lead to the collapse of the PA at any moment and to instability in the area, according to reports from Maariv newspaper today.

According to one of the potential scenarios considered by the IDF, any altercation between settlers and Palestinians, or the throwing of a Molotov cocktail could quickly escalate to rioting in the Galilee and the Triangle area.

With the weakened Palestinian Authority, a situation like this may lead to terrorist organisations taking control of the West Bank, intelligence sources warned.

They indicated that April would be a critical month for security in the West Bank, stating that the IDF and the Shin Bet (Israeli security agency) are preparing for this by carrying out many operations for the seizure of ammunition and money in the West Bank in order to prevent their use in the event of the deterioration of the security situation.
