Website of Kuwaiti parliament re-launches following ISIS hack

The Kuwaiti parliament announced on Sunday the re-launching of its website after it was briefly hacked by ISIS earlier the same day.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, the National Assembly’s General Secretariat said that it had submitted a request to the Kuwaiti Department of Cyber Crime to investigate the matter, and to find out the causes and circumstances of the attack.

ISIS succeeded in hacking the Kuwaiti parliament’s website earlier on Sunday, where they published slogans indicating that the site had been hacked by the organisation, as well as various insults aimed at the Kuwaiti leadership.

MP Faisal Al-Duwaisan criticised the government’s approach towards what he called the “real enemy of Kuwait”, noting that “the efforts made by the concerned authorities in dealing with Daesh [the Arabic term for ISIS] are not transparent and do not meet the required levels.”

“We expect serious action from the government; otherwise citizens should not be surprised by acts of violence, assassinations and brutal acts that may occur as a result of the government’s laxity regarding those who sympathize with Daesh,” Al-Duwaisan stated on Sunday.

“How many Kuwaitis are fighting under the banner of Daesh in Iraq and Syria? How many of them were killed? How big are the state’s efforts to prevent young people from sympathising with the terrorist organisation? And how will the competent authorities deal with those who fighting under Daesh’s banner?” the Kuwaiti MP asked.

He expressed his concern that ISIS’s terrorist ideology could spill over to Kuwait, pointing out that “this terrorist thought has received popularity in Europe itself, and therefore we cannot rule out the possibility that it would arrive in Kuwait.”

“The efforts of the concerned bodies such as the Interior Ministry, the Endowments, the Media ministries and others are either shy or not transparent,” he added.
