The Islamic State has executed 300 prisoners in the city of Qaim, 350 kilometres west of Ramadi in the Anbar province.

Tribal chief Sheikh Naeem Al-Ga’oud told the Anadolu Agency: “On Wednesday, Islamic State terrorists executed 300 prisoners including Iraqi police officers and civilians they captured nearly six months ago after they controlled the city.”

Al-Ga’oud said the mass execution was carried out in one of the city’s public squares by shooting the prisoners in the head, chest and abdomen, pointing out that the bodies were buried in a mass graves.

He did not provide any evidence to his claim and the incidence could not be verified from an independent source.

On Tuesday, Iraqi forces and tribesmen affiliated with them began a military campaign to recapture control of the Anbar province from ISIS.
