Israeli ambassador cut off from Obama staff, data shows

In further proof of the mistrust between the Obama administration and Benjamin Netanyahu, new data shows that Israel’s ambassador in Washington DC has hardly visited the White House over the last 18 months.

According to Ha’aretz, entry logs show that Ambassador Ron Dermer, a confidante of Netanyahu, visited the White House just 11 times from December 2013 to end of 2014. Only one of those occasions included a meeting with Obama’s senior Middle Eastern affairs adviser Philip Gordon.

By contrast, Reuven Azar, deputy chief of mission to the Israeli Embassy, entered the White House on 10 occasions just between July and December of 2014.

The Israeli newspaper described the new information as illustrative of “the extent of the disconnect” between Dermer and “the powers-that-be in Washington.”
