Sweden: Including Palestinian flag on list of terrorist symbols 'a mistake'

Senior officials in the Swedish Social Democratic Party described including the Palestinian flag on a list of terrorist symbols an “inadvertent mistake”, the Palestinian WAFA news agency reported.

Fatah Commissioner for International Relations Nabil Shaath yesterday said he contacted Swedish State Secretary to the Minister for Home Affairs Ann Linde and International Secretary of the Swedish Social Democratic Party Andrena Winter who stressed that that including the Palestinian flag in the list is absolutely unacceptable.

According to Shaath: “Swedish police recently distributed a list of terrorist organisations and the symbols they use to high school principles as part of an awareness campaign; however the list downloaded from the US National Counterterrorism Centre included the Palestinian flag listed as the symbol for the Abu Nidal Organisation.”

Swedish police recognised the error and promised to update the list.
