Turkey and Jordan to cooperate on nuclear energy

Turkey and Jordan agreed to cooperate on nuclear power for peaceful purposes, Turkey’s official gazette reported on Friday.

The 15-year agreement encompasses feasibility studies and research, as well as technical, scientific research and human resource development.

The deal also includes an exchange of experts, lecturers, students and training of scientific and technical personal.

Turkey is about to build two nuclear plants – one with Russia on the Mediterranean coast and another with France and Japan on the Black Sea.

On March 25, Russia and Jordan signed an agreement for the construction of Jordan’s first nuclear power plant. Jordan plans to finish the country’s $10 billion project in Amra in eastern Jordan by 2022. The facility is due to have a total capacity of 2,000 megawatts.
