Israel to build dividing fence on Jordanian border

June 30, 2015 at 1:37 pm

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that Israel’s Security Cabinet has decided to set up a 30 km dividing fence along the Israeli border with Jordan, starting from the city of Eilat.

During the session of the Knesset’s Foreign and Security Committee, Netanyahu claimed that the construction of this fence is part of Israel’s “national security”, following the model of the two fences that had been set up along the borders with Egypt and the occupied Golan Heights.

Netanyahu said that the fence will be built inside the occupied Palestinian territories, and will not violate Jordan’s sovereignty or national interests.
