120 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails start open hunger strike

August 6, 2015 at 11:07 am

As many as 120 Palestinian prisoners held in the Israeli Nafha prison have started an open hunger strike in protest against the repressive measures used against them, Minister of Prisoners Affairs Issa Qaraqe said.

During a telephone interview with Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, Qaraqe said the prisoners have taken this step in protest against the continuing repressive measures against them including the Israeli Special Forces storming the prison, the continued attacks on prisoners, and some being held in solitary confinement.

Qaraqe pointed out that the situation is very sensitive and that the prisoners have declared Friday to be a day of rage in all prisons especially in the prisons of Nafha, Ramon and the Negev.

“The prisoners intend to continue their hunger strike until the prison management stops its rabid attack against them,” he added.

Over 6,500 Palestinians are held in Israeli jails, according to official Palestinian statistics.
