The Libyan interim government has formed a ministerial delegation to negotiate with the US administration for the restoration of frozen Libyan assets in US banks, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency has reported.

The Libyan government said in a statement on Sunday that the ministerial delegation was formed after an invitation from the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations concerning supporting Libya in unfreezing its assets as well as solving problems facing the country.

A number of countries, including the United States, decided to freeze Libya’s assets in the wake of a popular revolt against the regime of former President Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

Successive Libyan authorities have repeatedly tried to restore the frozen assets with little success.

According to previous statements by Libyan officials,  frozen Libyan assets in the United State, are estimated at nearly $34 billion.

The Libyan National Transitional Council, the first parliament to be formed after the revolution, restored about $700 million.
