As many as 500 buildings have been destroyed as a result of the raging war in Aden, Yemen, Anadolu news agency has reported.

The Aden Reconstruction Initiative said in a report released on Sunday that it has concluded the final count of buildings in Aden including homes, companies, stores, shops, and other facilities that were destroyed as a result of the war.

According to the report, 111 buildings have been entirely destroyed – including 50 buildings in Crater Directorate, 36 building in Mualla Directorate, and 25 buildings in Tawahi – while the number of partially destroyed buildings reached 233 and 153 buildings suffered minor damage.

The report pointed out that the data included internal and external damage suffered to the buildings but did not include damage to household furniture, windows, doors and vehicles.

The head of the initiative, Nawar Abkar, said that it is a voluntary action group that was established earlier in April and does not follow any party.

Abkar told Turkey’s Anadolu news agency that the initiative has a team of engineers, public services  technicians and field volunteers who document damages sustained by buildings in Aden, but seeks to include other provinces such as Abyan, Lahj and Dali.

Aden and other Yemeni provinces have witnessed violent armed confrontations between forces loyal to President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and Shia Houthi rebels and forces loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
