6 Mexicans wounded in Egypt return home

September 18, 2015 at 2:17 pm

Six Mexican tourists wounded in a raid in Egypt are heading back to Mexico on their president’s airplane.

Mexican authorities said yesterday that the survivors of Sunday’s attack left an Egyptian hospital accompanied by Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu.

They added that the victims could be safely bought back home as their condition became stable but that they will continue their treatment in Mexico.

Twelve victims were killed and 10 others injured when Egyptian forces opened fire on the four vehicles in which the tourists were travelling.

Authorities said they mistook the tourists for terrorists.

At least eight Mexicans were among the dead, according to Mexico Foreign Ministry’s office. Details about the four other fatalities have been released.

Ruiz Massieu, who flew to Egypt on Tuesday, said Mexican authorities are working to return the victims’ bodies to Mexico as soon as possible.
