The popular uprising in Palestine will revive the nation

October 15, 2015 at 11:49 am

The popular uprising of our people in Palestine is being called a series of acts by “lone wolves”. It’s not; it’s a spontaneous intifada against the arrogance and brutality of Israeli occupation and colonisation. If there are any wolves involved, they are in Israeli clothing.

Although Palestinian blood is being spilled, the people are displaying rare heroism with their sacrifices. They are using the example of their proud past to overcome their difficult present and provide a bright future.

Even young Palestinian women are involved, for which we are grateful. They are defending the honour, dignity and sanctities of all Palestinians, and Al-Aqsa Mosque. They have paid the price but remain patient and continue to persevere. Their example has ignited the determination of the men, the will of the free and the fortitude of the heroes.

This uprising is a full-fledged revolution against Israeli oppression, arrogance and hostility; a revolution of a nation united against the oppressors. The people have spoken with their actions and refuse to let the internal political friction prevent them from uniting for a just cause. They have come together spontaneously, presenting a distinguished example, inspiring the entire nation, guiding it to the right path and preserving the nation’s value and dignity.

This is the revolution of a free and proud people who reject Israeli oppression and injustice. The nation may be wounded, and once proud allies may be kidnapped and defeated, like Egypt, but the people won’t allow such distractions to divert them from the struggle as they demand a life of dignity, honour and justice.

Syria too has disappeared, torn apart by Assad and Daesh, and now being fought over by East and West like hyenas. Saudi Arabia is also distracted and too busy to worry about the Palestinians as it goes about bombing civilians in Yemen in its efforts to rid its neighbour of the Houthi threat.

Despite all of this, the Palestinian cause will remain the central and unifying issue of the region and the Muslim world. Israel will remain a cancer in the heart of the Middle East, causing pain to the entire body. As long as the Israeli occupation is in place, it will be the main enemy of peace and justice, no matter how many Arabs it has standing in its corner ready to sabotage the efforts for freedom.

The youth in revolt must not be in a rush to reap the fruit of their actions. They must be patient with their uprising and plan it carefully. They must be supported by the factions financially, politically and morally. Theirs must be a united, popular struggle.

Don’t give the Israelis an excuse to hit Gaza again; it is still exhausted from Israel’s numerous murderous offensives. Down Gaza may be, but it’s not out altogether; its people are rooting for the uprising’s heroes. Nevertheless, the intifada should focus on the occupied West Bank and occupied Jerusalem. Don’t fall into any traps set by Israel and its apologists. This is a Palestinian uprising. Let us all support it.
