The head of Hamas’s political bureau, Khaled Meshaal, has participated in an open meeting with South African pro-Palestinian organisations.

The meeting was attended by over 80 activists from the cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Hamas said in a statement on Wednesday that Meshaal spoke about the situation in the Palestinian territories and the future of the Palestinian cause.

The deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau, Moussa Abu Marzouk, said the meeting was very fruitful.

“There are many supporters of the Palestinian cause in the world and we should work to unite their efforts until the liberation of our land,” he affirmed.

Meshaal arrived in Johannesburg on Sunday with a delegation from Hamas, including his deputy Dr Moussa Abu Marzouk and members of the movement’s political bureau Mohammed Nazzal and Sami Khater, who met with South African President Jacob Zuma.

The delegation is reported to have signed a letter of intent with the ruling National Congress Party for future cooperation.
