November 2, 2015 at 10:39 am

Russian airstrikes have killed 1,700 civilians in including women and children throughout Syria, Aljazeera.net reported the National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces as saying on Saturday.

In a statement, the coalition accused Russia of committing war crimes after bombing residential areas, hospitals, schools and bakeries across the country.

According to the statement, the Russian fighters carried out more than 2,100 attacks, but have failed so far to achieve any military gain in favour of the Assad regime.

Russian fighters, who started their strikes on Syria in September, have carried out only 50 strikes against Daesh bases with the rest targeted civilian areas.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights said Russia is clearly violating UN Security Council Resolution 2,139 regarding arbitrary strikes. It also said that Russian attacks are flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.

Russian claims that its strikes target Daesh, opposition groups argue Russian strikes are supporting Assad’s positon against the rebels.
