Poland FM: Syrian refugees should form an army to liberate their country

November 17, 2015 at 12:41 pm

Poland’s new Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees who arrived in Europe can be trained to form an army and return to “liberate” their homeland.

“Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have come to Europe recently. We can help them form an army,” Waszczykowski told public television on Sunday evening.

“Tens of thousands of young men disembark from their rubber dinghies with iPads in hand and instead of asking for drink or food, they ask where they can charge their cell phones. They can go to fight to liberate their country with our help,” the minister, who took office yesterday, said.

Poland’s European Affairs Minister, Konrad Szymanski, said earlier on Saturday that Warsaw no longer considered an EU plan to redistribute refugees across Europe as a “political possibility” in light of the Paris attacks, but Waszczykowski confirmed on Sunday that his country plans to respect the EU decision.
