December 12, 2015 at 1:21 pm

Six-party ministerial talks on Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam began in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Friday.

The Sudanese, Egyptian and Ethiopian irrigation ministers attended the new round of talks, which were scheduled to start last week but postponed to Friday after an Ethiopian request.

The new round of talks is aimed to give a political and technical push to increase cooperation among the countries.

Sudanese news network Al-Shorouq reported the Sudanese Irrigation, Water and Electricity Minister Mo’taz Musa as saying: “Attendance of foreign and irrigation ministers in the meeting aims to give a political and technical push for the talks.”

Musa added: “The six-party ministerial meeting reiterates the intention of the three countries to maintain cooperation and have successful talks that guarantee the common interests of the three states.”

Egypt had previously asked to include the foreign ministers of the three countries after the failure of one and half years talks among irrigation ministers.

Meanwhile, Egyptian media sources accused the Ethiopians procrastination aimed at buying time to complete as much as possible of the Dam in order to dictate their terms on the other countries.
