The European Union yesterday allocated €5.27 million in financial support to Morocco to support Rabat’s efforts to integrate migrants into the local labour market.

The European Union commission in Morocco said the support will be provided to the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC) to implement a pilot project that aims to integrate migrants who settled their legal status into the Moroccan labour market.

The project which will last three months will provide temporary work for migrants in Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Tangier and Oujda before the development of a national strategy in this regard.

More than 150 migrants who settled their legal status benefit from services provided by ANAPEC.

According to the statement, the partnership between the EU and Morocco aims to strengthen the capacity of the Moroccan authorities to settle migration issues in the field of work over three years, in close cooperation with their European partners.

On Monday, Minister in Charge of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs, Anis Peru, said Rabat has settled the legal status of some 26,000 migrants, including more than 4,500 Syrian refugees.
