Russian company plans tourist trips to Syria warzone

December 18, 2015 at 10:56 am

A Russian tourism company announced on Thursday that it intends to organise tourist trips to the warzone in Syria, Russia Today has reported. Megapolis said that tickets for tours scheduled to start next year will include visits to the frontline of the battle against Daesh and will go on sale next week.

The company has already applied to register the “Assad Tour” trademark, apparently named after the Syrian President, Bashar Al-Assad. The five-day trips could cost $500 and start from the capital Moscow. Megapolis said that it has started to hold meetings with Syrian officials and hotels in the area through the Russian embassy in Damascus.

However, according to Irina Tyurina of the Russian Travel Industry Union, sending tourists to conflict zones runs counter to Russian law, since the company cannot guarantee their safety.
