January 7, 2016 at 12:55 pm

The Kuwaiti Criminal Court has acquitted five Kuwaitis of funding and fighting with Daesh and Al-Nusra Front, the Anadolu Agency reported judicial sources saying yesterday.

According to the sources, the Kuwaitis were accused of funding the banned groups in Kuwait and fighting with them in two battles in the Iraqi city of Beji and in different areas in Syria.

The Kuwaiti public prosecutor may appeal the ruling.

On 30 July 2015, the Kuwaiti interior ministry announced it had arrested a five-member Daesh cell. Four were later accused of being affiliated with Daesh and carrying out hostile activities against a foreign country that would put Kuwaiti diplomatic relations at stake.

One of the suspects was also accused of funding Daesh.

The fifth suspect was accused of being affiliated with Al-Nusra Front.

He was also accused of carrying out hostile activities against a foreign country that would endanger Kuwaiti diplomatic relations.
