At least 47 people were killed and scores of others injured on Saturday when Russian warplanes struck the opposition-held Maarat al-Numan district in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, Syrian civil defense sources told Anadolu Agency.
According to the sources, who are based in Maarat al-Numan, the victims most of whom were civilians – were killed when Russian warplanes struck a market and residential areas, along with a prison controlled by the Nusra Front militant group.

The same sources added that another person had been killed – and several others injured – by Russian airstrikes carried out in the city of Saraqib and the town of Khan Shaykhun, both of which are also located in Idlib.
