Hamas calls on UN to end Palestinian suffering

Hamas yesterday called on the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to take practical measures to end the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Quds Press reported.

The call came one day after Ban described the Palestinian resistance to the occupation as “human nature”.

“It is human nature to react to occupation, which often serves as a potent incubator of hate and extremism,” he said. He also blamed Israel for undermining security and the peace process.

Speaking to Quds Press, Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan addressed Ban saying: “The siege being imposed on the Gaza Strip is a political decision aimed at getting rid of the Palestinian cause through ending resistance, which is the only way to push the occupation to recognise Palestinian rights.”

Hamdan noted that several massive wars failed to end the Palestinian resistance.

He suggested that Ban should visit the besieged Strip with a convoy of urgently needed aid to help the people as a first step towards ending their suffering.

“The second step is announcing that the Gaza Strip is not an occupied territory, Israel has no authority over it and running it is an internal Palestinian issue,” Hamdan said.

The third step, Hamdan said, is calling for the international community to “impose sanctions on the Zionist entity, over its crimes against the Palestinian people, similar to what happened to the apartheid regime in South Africa.”

Hamdan stressed that the Palestinian resistance will continue to defend Palestinians. However, he stressed: “If the UN takes practical measures, this would save a lot of blood.”
