The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced yesterday that Switzerland will represent Saudi Arabia’s consular interests in Iran and Iran’s affairs in Saudi Arabia after diplomatic relations between the two countries were severed.

During a visit to Riyadh, Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter said the subject of representation of the interests of the two countries is the primary outcome of the visit, which lasted 24 hours.
He met with Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz as well as Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir.
Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic relations with Iran early in January after the attack on its embassy in Tehran in response to the execution of a Shia Saudi cleric.
