Iran’s Minister of Defence Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan arrived in Moscow on Monday following an official invitation from Russian Minister of Defence Sergei Shoigu and will hold talks with senior political and defence officials.
Brigadier Dehqan is scheduled to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues with senior Russian political and military officials.
Enhanced defence, military and technical cooperation between Tehran and Moscow will be among the main objectives of the Iranian minister’s visit.
On Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry was quoted by RIA news agency as saying that Russia will start the delivery of S-300 air defence missile systems to Iran in “the nearest time”.
The Islamic Republic is also displaying interest in buying more advanced, S-400 missile systems, but no negotiations are being conducted at the moment on this matter, the agency reported.
The Iranian- Russian military talks come amid increasing indicators of military escalation in Syria.
