Erdogan: Turkey will not allow PYD, YPG to create a corridor in north Syria

February 29, 2016 at 1:07 pm

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country will not allow the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its armed wing, the People’s Protection Units (YPG), to establish a corridor linking areas they control in northern Syria.

Speaking to reporters before leaving for his Africa visit, which starts with Ivory Coast on Sunday, Erdoğan said: “A corridor that would emerge in the north of Syria by terrorists means danger and trouble for us. We told all of our friends that we will not let that happen.”

He mentioned that “some” are supporting the PYD and the YPG in efforts to create a corridor. “You know who supports them. But we, as Turkey said previously, will not allow such a corridor. And we will do whatever we can,” he said.
