Moscow claims Daesh receives weapons through Turkey

March 2, 2016 at 12:21 pm

Russia claimed on Tuesday that Daesh and its allies in Syria receive weapons via humanitarian aid convoys entering the country through its borders with Turkey, Masralarabia.com reported.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for the closure of Syria’s border with Turkey to cut off outside supplies to “terrorists” while he was in Geneva following an agreement to halt hostilities.

Moscow and Washington drafted the UN-backed “cessation of hostilities” deal, which came into force on Friday, and the two countries are co-chairing an international task force evaluating how the ceasefire is holding.

Ankara and Moscow support opposing sides of the Syrian conflict and Turkish-Russian relations are suffering as result, with tensions rising following Turkey’s downing of a Russian jet.
