Former Egyptian parliamentarians, who were members of the Shura Council that got dissolved when then-President Mohamed Morsi was ousted on 3 July 2013, called on the United Nations and international human rights organisations to intervene to save Morsi’s life.

Morsi was convicted and sentenced to death after he was ousted in a military coup.

The former lawmakers said in a statement that they noticed Morsi’s repeated absence from court sessions, adding that this is a serious indication that his life is in danger. Egyptian authorities did not give any reason for Morsi’s absence.

The former MPs demanded Morsi be subject to medical examination by an impartial committee chosen by his defence team to learn about “the nature of the risks” he may be subjected to in prison, and to figure out whether toxins were added to his food or if his life was exposed to danger in anyway.”

The Turkey-based entity, which sees itself as Egypt’s legitimate parliament, demanded in its statement that Morsi appear in the media accompanied by his lawyer, alleging that Morsi’s “ghost” in haunting President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, which is why the latter wants to get rid of him.
