Khamenei: Washington has not fulfilled its pledges

March 21, 2016 at 12:31 pm

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei yesterday accused the United States of “not fulfilling” the pledges it made in last year’s nuclear deal, AlKhaleejOnline reported.

Marking the new Iranian year at a televised speech in the city of Mashhad, Khamenei said that the Americans “lifted the sanctions on paper, but they did not implement this on the ground.”

The US Secretary of the Treasury “has been working day and night in order to undermine letting Iran benefit from the nuclear deal,” he said.

Khamenei expressed his worries about how the next American president will deal with Iran, noting that the current runners for American presidency have been “competing in their insults of Iran.”

Meanwhile, Khamenei said Europe is still worried about signing deals with Iran, referring this to their fear of the US.

“In Western countries and places which are under US influence, our banking transactions and the repatriation of our funds from their banks face problems because they fear the Americans,” Khamenei said.

Therefore, he said, Iran should be economically self-reliant because the US and its allies are not reliable partners. He said that the US is putting pressure on Iran in order to get rid of its revolutionary and Islamic principles; especially regarding its regional policies.
