Muslim Brotherhood celebrates 88th anniversary

March 22, 2016 at 2:08 pm

The Muslim Brotherhood is celebrating 88 years since its establishment in 1928 across 52 Arab, European, Asian, African and American countries, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Despite its widespread presence, the group faces a severe crisis in its country of birth, Egypt, after the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi on 3 July 2013.

Some group members believe the movement’s global spread has been slow because the group “respects relations between states and people and there is no global regulatory body which links its associations”.

Senior Muslim Brotherhood member, Mohammed Soudan told Anadolu that the Muslim Brotherhood is present in 85 countries around the world whether as movements or institutions that associate with the group’s ideology, noting that the group is keen on its advocacy and charity work, especially in Africa.
