Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Al-Zahar said on Friday that his movement is heading to Cairo on Sunday to resume meetings aimed at improving relations with the Egyptian authorities.
Speaking to Al-Jazeera TV, Al-Zahar denied that his movement had been asked to mediate between the Muslim Brotherhood and the Egyptian regime.

He said that Hamas would reply to the Egyptian questions during the upcoming meetings with the chief of the Egyptian intelligence, noting that the previous meetings were “positive.”
Al-Zahar said that his movement urged the Egyptian intelligence to launch a media campaign clearing Hamas from all previous accusations that it was involved in activities which undermined Egypt’s national security.
Regarding the borders with Egypt, Al-Zahar said that Hamas was “shocked” by the massive amount of “false” information collected by the Egyptian intelligence about this issue, noting that Hamas refuted all the allegations.
