Sisi assures full cooperation in case of murdered Italian student

Egyptian President Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi stressed on Tuesday his country’s full and transparent cooperation with Italy regarding the murder of Italian student Giulio Regeni in Cairo.

Sisi’s statements came during a meeting with a delegation from the NATO parliamentary assembly, Egyptian news agency MENA reported.

He expressed his country’s “deep regret” at the death of Regeni at both official and popular levels, MENA added.

Sisi pointed to Egypt’s interest in uncovering the circumstances of the disappearance of Egyptian citizen Adel Mowad in Italy in October 2015, expressing his confidence that strong Egyptian-Italian relations will enable the two countries to deal wisely with the individual incidents and without negative repercussions.

The family and friends of Mowad, who worked as a cook in Italy, have demanded to know more about his disappearance.

Regeni went missing in Cairo on 25 January, the fifth anniversary of the 2011 revolution. His body was found nine days later in a roadside ditch on the outskirts of the capital.
