US sends nuclear-capable bombers to Gulf

B-52 nuclear-capable bombers have arrived at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar to join the war against Daesh, the US Air Force said on Saturday.

“The B-52 will provide the coalition continued precision and deliver desired airpower effects,” Lt. Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., commander of US Air Forces Central Command said in a statement.

The military did not disclose the number of the Cold War-era planes deployed from Barksdale Air Force Base, in Louisiana but the move comes as a part of Washington’s accelerating anti-Daesh war.

“As a multi-role platform, the B-52 offers diverse capabilities including delivery of precision weapons and the flexibility and endurance needed to support the combatant commander’s priorities and strengthen the coalition team,” Brown added.
